The Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), the EU’s public-private partnership advancing 5G and 6G research and innovation, will kick off Mobile World Congress 2025 with a session on shaping Europe’s competitive edge in digital infrastructure, featuring C-level executives from major industry players in telecommunications, technology, and verticals
The opening day session titled «Digital Infrastructure of the Future: Shaping Europe’s Competitive Edge» will take place on Monday, 3 March 2025, in Hall 6 at the Marconi Stage (Conference Stage A), from 09:00 to 10:15 CET.
This session will showcase Europe’s comprehensive strategy for digital transformation and will bring together executives and thought leaders from Europe’s most influential technology companies and vertical industries.
The session will explore several key themes:
• The transformation from transmission-centric to computing-centric digital infrastructures: from data highways to smart computing systems
• Strategic importance of digital infrastructure for European technological sovereignty
• How artificial intelligence and cloud computing are transforming mobile networks
• How businesses and cities are using advanced networks to innovate: practical examples: from smart trains to digital ports
Opening keynotes will be delivered by Pearse O’Donohue, DG CONNECT Director at the European Commission and Chair of the SNS JU Governing Board, and Colin Willcock, Chairman of the 6G Industry Association (6G-IA) Board and Vice-Chair of the SNS JU Governing Board.
The session is structured around two complementary panel discussions that together showcase Europe’s comprehensive vision for future digital infrastructure:
• The first panel, «Future connectivity: Connected, Collaborative Computing Networks,» features executives from large telecommunication and infrastructure providers o explore technological breakthroughs and business strategies for European leadership in 6G and Connected Collaborative Computing Networks (3C).
• The second panel, «Digital Infrastructure in Practice: Use Cases for Europe’s industrial competitiveness,» features industry pioneers from Deutsche Bahn, automotive industry, logistics and ports who will demonstrate real-world applications and share insights on building successful ecosystems between network providers and vertical industries, offering concrete examples of how advanced connectivity drives European industrial competitiveness.

The event will also showcase the presence of SNS JU projects at MWC 2025, demonstrating tangible progress in advancing European digital infrastructure capabilities.
