Nokia\u2019s People and Planet Impact Report 2025 showcases the opportunities available to customers and society to solve real-world issues through connectivity and technology<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nokia has released its People and Planet Impact Report 2025, showcasing the positive everyday impact of connectivity and digital technology for business and society.
\nThe report chronicles real-world examples \u2013 achieved in partnership with Nokia customers, suppliers, partners and communities \u2013 which tell powerful stories about the ability of digital connectivity to empower people, societies and economies to raise living standards through economic growth, responsible innovation and job creation.
\n\u201cAt Nokia, our belief is that technology is a force for good, but only when all variables in the equation have been considered.
\nWe must always strive to ensure the \u2018handprint\u2019 of technology, its benefits, exceed its inevitable \u2018footprint\u2019: the impact on people and the environment. When managed appropriately, technology has an important role to play in many of the world\u2019s challenges, including the accessibility of economic opportunities and the management of scarce resources, reducing operational expenditure, and building a responsible and resilient supply chain, all while offering opportunities to communities who need them the most. Economic growth, addressing challenges in society and reducing our impact on the environment, can all be achieved with the same investment.\u201d, said Subho Mukherjee, Vice President of Sustainability at Nokia.
\nNokia\u2019s People and Planet Impact Report 2025 demonstrates Nokia’s work both in its own operations and to help customers make a positive impact.
\nFirstly, the report highlights some of the measures Nokia is taking to evolve its processes, value chain and operations to reduce its own impact on the environment. Secondly, the report illustrates how Nokia\u2019s technology, engagement and approach to innovation can help customers generate value and solve real-world issues impacting businesses and people today.

Nokia\u2019s journey to Net Zero<\/strong>
\nAs of March 2025, Nokia has accelerated its climate drive, receiving Science Based Targets initiative (\u201cSBTi\u201d) approval for its 2040 Net Zero goal. Over the past five years Nokia\u2019s total greenhouse gas emissions have reduced by 36%, including a 56% reduction among final assembly suppliers and a 30% reduction in emissions from our products in use by our customers.
\nNokia product innovations have also become steadily more efficient, such as Nokia\u2019s AirScale 5G massive MIMO base stations which, today, use up to 50% less energy than in 2019, and FP5 chipsets which consume up to 75% less power than the previous generation.
\nNokia has also made considerable progress in championing circularity in product design, so that more products can be reused, repurposed or recycled, supporting workforce well-being, as well as providing opportunities for all, through initiatives such as Smartpur and partnerships with organizations including UNICEF.<\/p>\n

Ensuring the handprint is bigger than the footprint<\/strong>
\nNokia\u2019s networks support approximately 271 million fixed connections and 5.6 billion mobile subscriptions across 120 countries. Many of Nokia\u2019s customers are looking to reduce their energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by using Nokia\u2019s technology, as well as creating value for society.<\/p>\n

The report details real-world impacts of several innovations:
\nVale:<\/strong> Working with mining company Vale, Nokia implemented digital twins to use real-time data to create virtual replicas of real-world systems. The \u201cwhat if\u201d analysis is targeting up to a 25% increase in productivity through maintenance, inventory tracking and worker safety
\nVera Cruz do Xingu Farm:<\/strong> The Vera Cruz do Xingu Farm in Brazil installed a private LTE network to enable real-time monitoring of equipment. The approach saw a 3\u20135% reduction in fuel consumption and an 8\u201310% reduction in outsourced technician maintenance costs
\nGlobal Fiber Peru:<\/strong> Nokia, in partnership with Global Fiber Peru, is deploying a fiber network in the Amazon rainforest to connect 400 communities. The project will deliver high-speed internet to over 500,000 people, contributing to the narrowing of the digital divide and supporting local businesses and community growth.<\/p>\n
