Multi-year arrangement will promote innovative use of mobile technologies to narrow the digital divide<\/strong><\/p>\n

The GSMA, which represents mobile operators worldwide, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a Cooperation Agreement to advance digital transformation and mobile connectivity across Asia and the Pacific, marking a major increase in focus on the power of mobile to drive inclusive and sustainable development in the region.
\nThe strategic agreement aims to leverage mobile technology to bridge digital divides, foster economic growth, and boost climate resilience in ADB\u2019s developing member countries (DMCs). Through this multi-year collaboration, the GSMA and ADB will focus on knowledge sharing, policy reform, public-private partnerships, and capacity building \u2013 mobilising the full potential of the sector to address regional development challenges.
\nThe initiative is aligned with ADB\u2019s Strategy 2030 objective to promote innovative technology and integrated solutions, particularly in sectors such as health, education, finance, and disaster resilience. Under the arrangement, the GSMA will also contribute to the ADB\u2019s advisory panel on digital transformation, to guide mobile sector strategies and regional priorities.
\nJohn Giusti, Chief Regulatory Officer of the GSMA, said: \u201cMobile technology has the power to transform lives, especially in regions where access to essential services is limited. This partnership with the Asian Development Bank is an important milestone in our shared mission to create inclusive digital economies and build resilient societies across Asia and the Pacific. Together, we aim to unlock investment, drive policy innovation, and deliver real impact on the ground.\u201d
\nF. Cleo Kawawaki, Director-General, Sectors Department 2 of the ADB, said: \u201cThis strategic partnership with the GSMA underscores ADB\u2019s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and achieving its vision to a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia and the Pacific. By leveraging GSMA\u2019s deep expertise in mobile connectivity, digital inclusion, and policy advocacy, ADB aims to strengthen its support for member countries in building inclusive, resilient, and sustainable digital ecosystems.\u201d
\nThe cooperation will be implemented through a joint work program running from 2025 to 2027, which includes research, targeted events, policy dialogues with governments and regulators, and support for the development of mobile-based solutions for sectors including agriculture, health, and climate adaptation.
\nThe partnership underscores the shared commitment of both organisations to advancing digital inclusion and sustainable growth, recognising the critical role of mobile connectivity in enabling long-term development outcomes.<\/p>\n
